Το συνέδριο θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Παρασκευή 30 και το Σάββατο 31 Οκτωβρίου 2015 στο Δημοτικό Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο Πάνος Σολομωνίδης στη Λεμεσό, όπου στεγάζεται το Θεατρικό Μουσείο Κύπρου, που λειτουργεί από το 2012.
Οι θεματικές ενότητες θα αφορούν το θέατρο στην Κύπρο από την Αναγέννηση και μετέπειτα, τόσο των Ελληνοκυπρίων όσο και των άλλων κοινοτήτων, και ειδικότερα τους τομείς:
- Ιστορία των θιάσων και των παραστάσεων
- Επιλογές ρεπερτορίου (πρόσληψη συγγραφέων, εθνικών δραματουργιών, ειδών)
- Ζητήματα ιδεολογίας και αισθητικής
- Πρόσληψη του αρχαίου δράματος (μεταφράσεις, ελεύθερες αποδόσεις, παραστάσεις, αρχαιόθεμα κυπριακά έργα)
- Κυπριακή δραματουργία και σκηνικές αναγνώσεις στην Κύπρο και το εξωτερικό (επιρροές και καταβολές, έργα στην κοινή και έργα στη διάλεκτο, γυναίκες συγγραφείς, συγκρίσεις με την ελληνική δραματουργία και με άλλες τοπικές δραματουργίες, σχέσεις με την κυπριακή ιστορία)
- Θέατρο και κοινωνία στην Κύπρο
- Θέατρο για παιδιά
- Μεταφραστές, σκηνοθέτες, ηθοποιοί, σκηνογράφοι, ενδυματολόγοι, μουσικοί και άλλοι συντελεστές του κυπριακού θεάτρου
- Κριτική και κοινό των κυπριακών παραστάσεων εντός και εκτός Κύπρου
- Θέατρο στην τηλεόραση και το ραδιόφωνο του ΡΙΚ
- Σύγχρονες σκηνικές τάσεις στη θεατρική παραγωγή της Κύπρου
Οι προτεινόμενοι τίτλοι και οι περιλήψεις των ανακοινώσεων να αποστέλλονται στην ηλεκτρονική διεύθυνση του Θεατρικού Μουσείου Κύπρου theatre.museum@cytanet.com.cy με τίτλο «Συνέδριο», σε αρχείο word συνημμένο στο ηλεκτρονικό μήνυμα, μέχρι την 1η Μαρτίου 2015 (έκταση 250-300 λέξεις) και να συνοδεύονται από σύντομο βιογραφικό σημείωμα (έως 200 λέξεις).
Η επιλογή θα γίνει από την επιστημονική επιτροπή και οι απαντήσεις θα σταλούν έως τις 30 Απριλίου 2015. Θα γίνουν προσπάθειες ώστε το υλικό του συνεδρίου να εκδοθεί είτε σε μορφή ηλεκτρονικού βιβλίου είτε σε έντυπη μορφή.
Την επιστημονική επιτροπή αποτελούν οι Βάλτερ Πούχνερ (τιμητική συμμετοχή, Καθηγητής, Πανεπιστήμιο Αθηνών), Άντρη Χ. Κωνσταντίνου (Επίκουρη Καθηγήτρια, Πανεπιστήμιο Frederick, Δ.Σ. Θεατρικού Μουσείου Κύπρου), Ιωάννα Χατζηκωστή (διδάκτωρ αρχαίου δράματος, Έφορος Πολιτιστικού Ιδρύματος Τραπέζης Κύπρου), Αύρα Σιδηροπούλου (Λέκτορας, Ανοικτό Πανεπιστήμιο Κύπρου, σκηνοθέτις) και Λεωνίδας Γαλάζης (διδάκτωρ Νεοελληνικής Φιλολογίας, μελετητής κυπριακού θεάτρου).
Την οργανωτική επιτροπή αποτελούν οι Άντρη Χ. Κωνσταντίνου, Λευκή Μιχαηλίδου και Ιωάννα Χατζηκωστή (Πολιτιστικό Ίδρυμα Τραπέζης Κύπρου), Μαρίνα Μαλένη (ΘΟΚ και Δ.Σ. Θεατρικού Μουσείου Κύπρου), Μηνάς Τίγκιλης (Καλλιτεχνικός διευθυντής ΕΘΑΛ, πρώην εκδότης θεατρικού περιοδικού Εκκύκλημα) και Αγγελίνα Μορίδου, Ναταλία Κουχαρτσιούκ και Νικολέττα Τζιαούρη (Θεατρικό Μουσείο Κύπρου).
The Cyprus Theatre Museum, the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, the Municipality of Limassol and the Theatre Organisation of Cyprus are announcing the implementation of a theatre conference dedicated to Giannis Katsouris, titled “Theatre in contemporary and modern Cyprus”.
The conference is supported by the Postgraduate Programme “Theatrical Studies” of the Open University of Cyprus.
Giannis Katsouris (1935 – 2010), lecturer of philology and acknowledged writer, had served as the director of the Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture and has contributed greatly to the scientific establishment of the Cypriot theatre studies.
The purpose of the conference is to accumulate all available research on theatre in Cyprus but also invite research in this relatively new and highly unexplored scientific field. Therefore, the invitation extends to faculty members of university academic and teaching communities as well as to Ph.D holders and students. The invitation also addresses to all researchers of the history of Cypriot theatre as well as young theatre practitioners and dramaturges (postgraduate programmes’ students or graduates), the academic research of whom may be presented in special sessions during the conference.
The conference will take place on Friday 30th and Saturday 31st of October 2015 at the Municipal Cultural Centre Panos Solomonides in Limassol, where the Cyprus Theatre Museum – open since 2012 – is also located.
The thematic units of the conference will be about theatre in Cyprus from the Renaissance onwards, concerning the perspective of the Greekcypriot community as well as any other community of the island, and more particularly around these issues:
- History of theatre bands and performances
- Choices of repertoire (appointment of writers, national dramaturgs, genres)
- Matters of ideology and aesthetics
- Conception of ancient drama (translations, free adaptations, performances, Cypriot plays with antiquity themes)
- Cypriot dramaturgy and on stage readings in Cyprus and abroad (influences and consequences, plays in Greek and in the Cypriot dialect, women writers, comparison of greek dramaturgy with other local dramaturgies, correlations with Cypriot history).
- Theatre and society in Cyprus
- Theatre for children
- Translators, directors, actors, stage designers, costume designers, musicians and other contributors in Cypriot theatre
- Criticism and audiences for the Cypriot performances in Cyprus and abroad
- Theatre in television and the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation
- Contemporary stage trends in Cypriot theatrical productions
The proposed titles and reviews of the announcements must be sent to the electronic address of the Cyprus Theatre Museum theatre.museum@cytanet.com.cy, subjected “Conference”, in a word file attached to the email, until the 1st of March 2015 latest. The proposed announcement review should be no longer that 250-300 words and should be accompanied by a biographical reference of the interested party (200 words max).
The selection of presentations will be made by the scientific committee and replies to all applicants will be sent by the 30th of April 2015. Efforts will be made to publish the material of the conference in the form of an e-book or a printed edition.

Constantinou (Assistant Professor, Frederick University, Board member of the Cyprus Theatre of Museum), Ioanna Hatzikosti (Ph.D Ancient Drama, Registrar Bank of Cyprus Cultural Centre), Avra Sidiropoulou (Lecturer, Open University of Cyprus, director) and Leonidas Galazis (Doctor of Modern Greek Philology, Cypriot theatre researcher).
